Tips for students to ensure they and their computer are test ready.

Steps-to-Take:

Getting your Computer Ready

• Use a wired connection to the Internet. Wireless networks are less reliable.

• Check that your computer has the latest version of Java installed. To download the latest version of Java visit http://www.java.com

• Disable your pop-up blocker.

• Maximize or resize your browser window before you start the test. Some browsers refresh the page when you resize the window, which may lock you out from completing the test.

• Don’t wait until the last minute to take your test.

• Make sure you are in a place that is distraction free.

During the Test

• When entering the test, click the link only once. Sometimes it takes a while to load.

• Do not use the back button in the browser window while taking a test. Do not press the backspace key unless you are typing in a text box.

• When using a mouse with a scroll wheel, be careful when scrolling. Click in a blank area on the test, and then use the scroll wheel to prevent changing any of your answers.

• Click the Save button at the bottom of the page every few minutes to record your answers and ensure you're still connected to the Internet. Don’t click the Save button next to the question.

• If the test is a timed assessment, the total test time will be displayed on the top of the page. The elapsed time will appear at the bottom of your browser. A 1-minute alert will appear. Be sure to click the Submit button before the time is up.

• Some of your tests may ‘force completion’ which means once you open it you can’t leave it – only open the test when you have committed to finishing it.

Completing the Test

• Click on the Submit button when you are done. You MAY NOT be able to return to the test depending on the type and whether your instructor has allowed for multiple attempts.

• When submitting the completed test, you may see a warning stating that some of the questions may be incomplete. This is not necessarily an error, as you may have clicked Save next to some of the questions instead of the bottom of the page.

• If you receive an error message, write down exactly what it says and note the time/date of the problem (a screenshot may work as well), what web browser you were using, exactly what you were doing when the error occurred, and any other relevant details you can think of. Then contact Help Desk AND your instructor.

• You will receive confirmation or feedback upon completing the test.
