Steps-to-Take: How to install the Honorlock Extension?
1. Honorlock is the new lockdown browser that will be used for online components instead of Respondus. However, the concept stays the same, the lockdown browser will disable certain functions for the students to prevent cheating and other activities during an online exam.
2. Honorlock is only accessible through the Google Chrome browser. When clicking on your first exam through Honorlock, it will ask you to download the Honorlock Chrome Extension before starting the exam. The screen after clicking on your exam in blackboard should look something like this.
3. When seeing this screen, please make sure you select “I agree to Honorlock’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy” before clicking “Get Started”. After completing these steps, you will be directed to a window that should prompt you to add the extension to Chrome.
Please select “Add extension when receiving this pop-up box.
4. After following all these steps, Chrome should redirect you back to your exam and you can select “Start my Exam”. After that it should pop up a window with the heading “Review your Exam Guidelines”.
5. Here you will receive the option to do a quick System Check before starting your exam. This will ensure a better experience with taking your exam/test through Honorlock. After receiving the message “Congrats! Your system is all set to go” please select “Launch Proctoring. From there it will direct you to your webcam and audio settings.
6. When seeing this window please click on “allow” to give Honorlock permission to use your microphone and camera. Then the system will take you through multiple steps that include taking a photo of your face, your student ID number for verification and a scan of your surroundings. Lastly it will ask you to enable screen sharing so the system has access to your computer. After completing these steps, you will be able to click begin and start your exam or test.

Hardware error message
- If you are receiving the “hardware error” message when attempting to start your webcam or take your student photo or ID, it may be caused by several different configuration or permission issues. Please verify that Google Chrome has access to your Camera and Microphone.
- Windows:
- Please search for “microphone privacy settings” in the search bar and select the top option. The same will be done with “camera privacy settings”.
- Verify that the toggle switch is set to “On”.
- Apple:
- Navigate to chrome://settings/content/camera
- Under “Block” please ensure that no honorlock websites are listed. If there are any listed, please select the trashcan icon.
2. After verifying these settings please refresh your exam page and relaunch proctoring.
