Student - New Student First Time Logon Instructions

This article is a walk through for new students on the process of logging in to their CWI accounts

Purpose

This guide provides new students with step-by-step instructions for enrolling in CWI's password management system and successfully logging in to CWI systems for the first time.

 

Process

1. Visit the Enrollment Page
   Go to https://logonhelp.cwi.edu and click the "Enroll" button.

2. Enter Your Credentials

   • Username: Your first and last name combined (e.g., johnsmith). If you selected a preferred name during admission, it will be used instead (e.g., mikeanderson instead of michaelanderson).

   • Password: Use the following format:
     First initial + Last initial + "logon" + last 4 digits of your SSN
     Example: John Smith, SSN ending in 1234 → JSlogon1234
     If you did not provide an SSN, use the last 4 digits of your CWI ID instead. If you don’t know your CWI ID, contact the Help Desk at 208-562-3444.

3. Set Up Security Questions
   After enrolling, you’ll be prompted to create answers to security questions. These are case-sensitive and will be required for future password resets.

   • Example: "Password!" ≠ "password!" ≠ "P@SSWORd!"
     Click Finish when complete.

4. Change Your Password
   Return to the main page and select "Change Password."

   • Enter your username (johnsmith)

   • Use the default password (e.g., JSlogon1234) as the old password

   • Create a new password, following the guidelines shown on the page

5. Login Complete
   You can now access CWI systems using your new password and student email:
   username@my.cwi.edu

Important Notes

• If you ever forget your password, return to https://logonhelp.cwi.edu to reset it using your security questions.

• After changing your password, make sure to update it on all devices and apps (e.g., mobile email, Wi-Fi).

• Five (5) unsuccessful login attempts will lock your account for 30 minutes. This is often caused by a device trying to sign in with an outdated password.
