Everyone - Finding Safe and Approved AI Tools at CWI

This article explains how to locate the approved AI tools for use at the College of Western Idaho (CWI). These tools are listed under the AI Software heading on the CWI Software List.

Purpose

This article provides a list of AI tools that are approved for use at CWI.
These tools have been reviewed by IT to ensure they meet security and compliance requirements.

Only the tools listed below should be used for CWI-related work.

Approved (Authorized) AI Tools

1. Copilot Chat
   • Availability: All CWI users
   • Purpose: Data-protected AI assistance
2. Copilot Chat for Microsoft 365
   • Availability: Pilot test group
   • Purpose: AI integration within Microsoft 365 applications
3. Claude LLM
   • Availability: Institutional Research only
   • Purpose: Institutional research support
4. Guardrailz
   • Availability: Instructional use
   • Purpose: Secure AI deployment
5. MyEssayFeedback
   • Availability: Instructional use
   • Purpose: Essay feedback

Not Approved (Unauthorized) AI Tools

The following tools are not approved for use at CWI:

• ChatGPT
• ChatGPT Atlas
• Perplexity AI
• Comet
• DeepSeek
• Google Gemini
• Zoom AI Companion

Reason: These tools do not meet CWI data protection and compliance requirements.
