Body

Purpose

To provide CWI students with secure and reliable alternatives to emailing files from personal accounts, ensuring successful file transfers to their CWI Microsoft 365 account using Outlook Web or OneDrive Web—tools that are fully supported and less likely to be blocked by spam filters.

Process

If you need to send files from your personal computer to access them from your CWI account, we recommend not emailing them to yourself from your personal address. These emails often get flagged by our spam filters and may never reach your inbox.

Instead, use one of the two CWI-supported Microsoft tools: Outlook Web or OneDrive Web. Both are part of your CWI Microsoft 365 account and offer safe, reliable ways to move your files around.

Option 1: Upload Files Using Outlook Web

  1. Go to outlook.office.com and sign in using your CWI student email and password.

  2. Click "New Mail" to start a new message.

  3. In the "To:" field, type your own CWI email address.

  4. Add a short subject line like: Transferring files to CWI

  5. Click the paperclip icon (📎) to attach your file(s). Choose from:

    • Browse this computer to upload from your local device

    • Browse cloud locations if the file is already in a cloud service like OneDrive or Google Drive

  6. Once your files are attached, click Send.

  7. Within a few minutes, check your Inbox or Sent folder. You’ll be able to open or download your file directly from there.

Why this works: Since you're sending the email from your CWI account to yourself, it won't get caught in the spam filter.

Option 2: Upload Files to OneDrive Web

  1. Go to onedrive.live.com and sign in with your CWI credentials.

  2. Once inside OneDrive, choose a folder (or create a new one) where you'd like to store your files.

  3. Click the "Upload" button near the top of the page.

  4. Select "Files" or "Folder", then pick the item(s) you want to upload from your personal computer.

  5. Wait for the upload to finish. Once it's done, the files are now stored safely in your CWI account.

You can access them anytime from any device—just sign in to OneDrive using your CWI account.

Quick Tip: Avoid Spam Filter Frustrations

CWI’s email system uses strict filters to block unwanted messages and spam. If you try to send emails from a personal Gmail, Yahoo, or other account to your CWI email with file attachments, the message might be automatically flagged or blocked.

That’s why it’s better to:

  • Use Outlook Web to send from your CWI email

  • Or upload directly to OneDrive Web

Both are free with your CWI student account and part of your Microsoft 365 tools.
