Body
Purpose
To enhance cybersecurity at the College of Western Idaho (CWI), a new policy has been implemented regarding email attachments from common public email providers.
What's Changing?
Emails sent to your @my.cwi.edu student email address with attachments from major external domains (e.g., gmail.com, outlook.com, yahoo.com, etc.) will no longer be delivered directly to your inbox. Instead, they will be redirected to a secure email quarantine system.
Process
Student Guidance
"CWI has recently implemented a security policy that quarantines email attachments from common public domains like Gmail and Yahoo. You’ll get a quarantine summary email every 4 hours. If the email looks familiar and you need the attachment, you can request its release. Our team will review it and release it if it’s safe."
How It Works
- Quarantined Messages:
Messages with attachments from major domains are held in a secure quarantine for review.
- Notification Emails:
Students will receive a summary email every 4 hours from quarantine@cwi.edu showing a list of any quarantined messages.

- Requesting Release:
If the student recognizes a quarantined email and would like to access it, they can request its release.

- The CWI IT team will review the attachment.
- If deemed safe, the message will be released to their inbox.
