How to set up and sign in using a security key

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide steps to setup a Security Key for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and how to sign in using a Security Key. If you have not received a Security Token, please contact the IT HELP DESK at 208-562-3444. This is commonly referred to as a Hardware Token:

 

Process

• Navigate to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, this will take you to the website to set up your MFA
• Select the Add sign-in method highlighted in red

 

• Select the Security Key option

 

• Select the USB device option

 

• Select Next 

 

• It will redirect you to a new web page Select the Security Key option

 

• Select OK in the Security Key Setup box

 

•  Select OK in the Continue Setup box

 

• Insert your USB Security when this box pops up

 

• Set a pin that you will remember (A Minimum of 4 Characters)

 

• Now it asks to interact with the security key

 

• Select OK

 

• Now it will redirect you back the My Sign-ins page and ask you to name the new security key

 

• Select Done

 

• It will look similar to the screen shot below when adding the security key to you previous authentication methods

 

Signing In

There are two way to sign in with you Security Key

Option 1

• Select Sign-in options

 

• Select the First option (Face, fingerprint,PIN or security key)

 

• Select Security Key

 

• Insert your PIN 

 

• Interact with your security key

 

• Then Select Yes

 

Option 2

• Enter your username and password and the Security Key option will pop up

 

• Enter your PIN

• Interact with your Security Key

 

Signing in with other MFA methods

If you would like to sign in with another method after setting up you security key follow these steps

• Enter your Username and Password, then the security key option will pop up
• Select Cancel

 

• This box will pop up and select Sign in another way

 

• Then this box will pop up; then select the option you would like

 

• Insert the code given and you will be signed in
