Everyone - How to Add Hyperlinks in Canvas Discussion Boards

This article explains how to add hyperlinks in Canvas discussion posts, including links to external websites or other Canvas course content.

Purpose

This article explains how to insert clickable hyperlinks in a Canvas discussion reply, either to an external website or to content within your Canvas course (pages, assignments, quizzes, etc.).

 

 

Process

Step 1: Open the Discussion Board

1. Open your Canvas course.
2. Navigate to Discussions in the course menu.
3. Click the discussion you want to reply to.

5. Click Reply to start your response.

Step 2: Open the Link Menu

1. In the Rich Content Editor toolbar, click the Link drop-down menu.
2. 
3. Choose External Links for websites outside Canvas or Course Links for pages, assignments, quizzes, or other course content.

Step 3A: Add an External Link

1. Select External Links.
2. Enter the URL of the external website.
3. Enter the Display Text (the text that will appear as the clickable link).

5. Click Done.

Step 3B: Add a Course Link

1. Select Course Links.
2. From the drop-down menu, choose the type of content (e.g., Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, etc.).
3. Select the specific item you want to link.

5. The link will be created automatically.

Step 4: Post Your Reply

1. After adding your link(s), click Reply to post your discussion.
2. Your hyperlinks will now appear in your post, ready for viewers to click.
