Summary
As part of CWI’s transition to Microsoft Teams Phone, users may need to update their default calling application in Windows. This article provides simple steps to switch the default phone app from Cisco Jabber to Microsoft Teams so click-to-call links continue to work as expected.
Body
Purpose
This article explains how to change your default phone calling application in Windows from Cisco Jabber to Microsoft Teams. Making this change allows phone number links (such as click-to-call links in Excel or email) to open directly in Microsoft Teams after the campus phone system migration.
Process
When to Use This Article
Use these steps if:
- Phone number links open in Cisco Jabber instead of Microsoft Teams
- You have Microsoft Teams installed and signed in
- CWI has migrated your phone service to Microsoft Teams Phone
Change the Default Phone App to Microsoft Teams
Follow these steps in Windows:
- Open Settings
- Select Apps
- Select Default apps
- Scroll down and select Phone Link
- Choose Microsoft Teams as the default calling application
Once this change is made, clicking phone number links (such as tel:// links) will open Microsoft Teams and start a call automatically.
What Happens After the Change
After Microsoft Teams is set as the default phone app:
- Click-to-call links in Excel, email, and other supported apps will open Teams
- You no longer need Cisco Jabber for placing calls
- Your existing click-to-call workflows can continue without interruption
Notes and Best Practices
- Make sure Microsoft Teams is fully installed and signed in before changing the default app
- If calls still open in Cisco Jabber, restart your computer and try again
- Using
tel:// links is recommended for the best compatibility with Microsoft 365 apps
