Everyone - What Is My CWI Username Used For?

Purpose

This guide provides new students with a clear understanding of the key digital tools and platforms used at the College of Western Idaho (CWI), including distinctions between personal and student email accounts, as well as an overview of essential CWI websites and systems such as myCWI, Blackboard, and the CWI Homepage.

Process

Personal Email Account

Your personal email account is created independently of the College of Western Idaho (CWI) and is not connected to the college in any way. Common examples include addresses ending in @gmail.com or @msn.com. Once you are registered at CWI, all official communications will be sent exclusively to your student email address, not your personal email.

Student Email Account

Your student email account is created through CWI and powered by Microsoft O365. It uses the @my.cwi.edu domain and is separate from any personal Microsoft accounts you may already have, such as Live, MSN, or Hotmail. Once registered, this email becomes the official communication channel for all messages from your instructors and the college. You can access your student email through the Outlook Web App after logging in.
