Everyone - How to Set Up Your Multifactor Authentication Method (MFA)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

To properly follow the instructions in this article, it's important that the user does not have a method already assigned to their account and that the user is familiar with their CWI credentials. If a method is already assigned, or missing credentials, it will be necessary to call the Help Desk (208-562-3444) to reset the MFA method on the user's account. Otherwise, these instructions should suffice:

1. ACCESS OUTLOOK:

  • Go the CWI Homepage.
  • Go to the Login options, and a drop-down menu will appear. Click on Student Email
  • Microsoft is going to prompt you with your credentials. Those credentials should be your CWI email address and your CWI password. Enter them and click on next.
  • Microsoft is going to prompt you that more information is required by your organization. Go ahead and click next.

2. SET UP MULTIFACTOR AUTHENTICATION METHOD (MFA):

a) Microsoft Authenticator App

After clicking on next from the previous step, Microsoft's default go-to will the Microsoft Authenticator App. If you wish to set up your multifactor authentication method trough the app, do the following:

  • Click on next. Afterwards, download the Microsoft Authenticator App on your favorite App Store.

  • After clicking 'Next,' you should have already downloaded the Microsoft Authenticator App from either the Android Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Then, click 'Next' again.

  • You will see a QR code. Do not scan it with your phone camera; scan it using the Microsoft Authenticator App. Locate the blue button with a QR code symbol in the app, click it, and then scan the code displayed on your screen.

  • After scanning the QR code, it is going to prompt you with a code, and you will get a notification on your phone to enter the code showing on your screen.

  • If the code matches, you will receive a congratulatory message and be granted access to your account. You will then be asked if you want to stay signed in; this choice is up to you.

b) Phone Number

  • If you prefer to use your phone number as the multifactor authentication method, then instead of clicking 'Next' when prompted to download the app, click on 'Use a Different Method' and select 'Phone.

  • It will then prompt you to enter a valid phone number and to enter the code that Microsoft will send to that phone number.

  • After entering the code, Microsoft will congratulate you and ask if you want to stay signed in. That decision is up to you.

CONGRATULATIONS!

You have successfully set up your Outlook account! If you are still encountering issues, please call the Help Desk at the phone number: 208-562-3444.
