Everyone - Using Self-Service Password Reset Tool

Purpose

Microsoft Entra's Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool allows users to securely reset their own passwords without needing to contact IT support. This helps reduce downtime and ensures uninterrupted access to Microsoft 365 and other organizational resources linked to your account.

General Overview

1. Access the Self-Service Password Reset Portal

 

2. Enter Your Account Information

  • On the “Get back into your account” page:
    • Enter your organizational email (e.g., username@cwi.edu or username@my.cwi.edu)

  • Type in the characters shown in the CAPTCHA box for security verification.

  • Click Next.

3. Verify Your Identity

  • Depending on the security info you’ve previously registered, you may see one or more options, such as:
    • Text message or phone call to your registered number.
    • Verification code sent to your alternate email.
    • Microsoft Authenticator app approval.
    • Security Questions
  • Enter the code or approve the sign-in request as instructed.

 

4. Create a New Password

  • Enter a new password that meets the following requirements
    • Minimum Length: 8 characters
    • Complexity: Must include at least 3 of the following:
      • Uppercase letters (A–Z)
      • Lowercase letters (a–z)
      • Numbers (0–9)
      • Symbols (e.g., @, #, $, %, etc.)
  • Confirm the password and click Finish.

 

 

5. Sign in With Your New Password

  • Return to your Microsoft 365 or organizational login page.
  • Use your new password to access your account.

 

 

Troubleshooting Issues 

  • Error: Account not recognized: Ensure you entered your full organizational email address correctly.
  • Can’t access any recovery options: Contact your IT Help Desk for further assistance.
  • Password reset successful, but can’t sign in: Wait a few minutes for synchronization or clear your browser cache and try again.
