Everyone - How to Logon to CWI Campus Computers

Note:

When you update your CWI password, you will also need to update any computing device that may be using your old password to sign into CWI apps. These devices include laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. With these devices, you would have some point used them to access your CWI email accounts and or the CWI WiFi. Any apps on your devices that you use to access CWI email and WiFi (and possibly other apps) that store your passwords in your computing devices, must be updated with your newest password or they will continue to attempt to sign in with the old, incorrect password and will inevitably lock your account.

Note:

5 failed log in attempts result in your account being locked out for 30 minutes.

Steps to Take:

  1. The computer may be in screen saver mode or sleeping. Press a key to wake it up or exit screen saver mode.
  2. You’ll be presented with a window that asks for your user name and Password: Your user name is typically your first and last name all in lowercase letters. Your password will be the same as your MyCWI (and CWI email and Blackboard) password, unless it is your first time ever logging into your account. If that is the case, then your (default) password is typically the first initial of your first name capitalized, the first initial of your last name capitalized, the lowercase word “logon”, followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number.
  3. Example: John Smith, SSN 123-45-6789 user name=johnsmith; Password=JSlogon6789.

    Note:
If you did not provide your social security number (SSN) when you registered with the college, please enter the last 4 digits of your student identification number (Student ID) instead of the last 4 digits of your SSN. If you do not know the last 4 digits of your Student ID, please call the help desk at 208-562-3444

  4. You will then get a box saying you must change your password before logging on. Click Ok. It will then have you create a new unique password. Your new password must have:
    1. Minimum of 8 characters, maximum of 16 characters
    2. One uppercase, one lowercase, one number, one special character; at least three of the 4 or use all four.
    3. Cannot contain your name, social security number or be an old password.

Note:

  1. If you make 5 unsuccessful attempts to logon, the system will lock out your account for 30 minutes. Your account will automatically unlock after 30 minutes.
  2. Since your Blackboard account is tied in with your Windows logon account; if you change your password in Windows, it will automatically change your Blackboard password to the same thing.
  3. If you update your password, be sure to update any devices that have your old password saved, such as any apps on your smart phone or saved passwords on your favorite web browser.
