Everyone - How to Logon With CWI Credentials

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to ensure that all students and employees update their stored passwords on every device and application after changing their CWI password. Doing so helps prevent repeated failed login attempts, account lockouts, and interruptions to access CWI services such as email, Wi-Fi, and Blackboard.

Update Stored Passwords After Changing Your CWI Password

After a CWI password is changed, the updated password must be entered on all devices used to access CWI services. This includes laptops, tablets, and mobile phones that may still have the previous password stored.

Devices and applications connected to CWI resources—such as email, Wi-Fi, or other CWI-related apps—must be updated with the new password. If the old password remains stored, repeated sign-in attempts with outdated credentials may occur, which can result in the account being temporarily locked.

5 failed log in attempts result in your account being locked out for 30 minutes.

Process

1. Logging in for the first time:

  • The default password is constructed using the first initial of the first name (capitalized), the first initial of the last name (capitalized), the lowercase word “logon,” followed by the last 4 digits of the Social Security number or the student ID.

Example 1:

Name: John Smith
SSN: 123-45-6789
Username: johnsmith
Password: JSlogon6789

Example 2:

Name: John Smith
Student ID: 5671234
Username: johnsmith
Password: JSlogon1234

**NOTE** Ensure to enroll your account first at logonhelp.cwi.edu. If still unable to login, contact the CWI IT Help Desk:

2. Once the account is enrolled, fill out the security questions and click Finish. Navgiate back to logonhelp.cwi.edu and select Change Password.  This is highly recommended as your password is still set to the default configuration. You will then be prompted to change your password before logging on.

4. Fill in username/password.  If any issues, please contact the CWI IT Help Desk.

Student-Employee Accounts (Work-Study) ONLY

In addition to the steps above, work-study students will also be given an employee account. The domain will be: @cwi.edu.

Once the employee account is created,  ALL login access to CWI applications, Office applications, Canvas, etc., will be through the account associated with the @cwi.edu domain.

All courses the student was enrolled in (and currently published) will be visible under the employee account.  If when logging into Canvas, an error occurs, confirm the new employee account is being used.

The student account will only have access to email. Ensure the student is aware the '100' was added as a suffix to their student account username when attempting to log into O365.  Additionally, it is recommended the student set up email forwarding to their new employee account to mitigate the need to log into both accounts.

Additional Notes

  1. If there are 5 unsuccessful attempts to logon, the system will lock the account for 30 minutes. The account will automatically unlock after 30 minutes.
  2. Canvas accounts are tied to your CWI login; if the password is changed for the CWI account, it will automatically update the Canvas password.
  3. Be sure to update any devices that have the old password saved. Examples include apps on smart phones or saved passwords on a favorite web browser.
