Important Reminder: Update Stored Passwords After Changing Your CWI Password
When you change your CWI password, it is essential to update that password on all devices you use to access CWI services. This includes laptops, tablets, and mobile phones that may have stored your previous credentials.
Devices and applications that connect to CWI resources—such as email, Wi-Fi, and other CWI-related apps—must be updated with your new password. Failure to do so will result in repeated sign-in attempts using the old password, which can lead to your account being locked due to multiple failed login attempts.
5 failed log in attempts result in your account being locked out for 30 minutes.
Steps to Take:
- The computer may be in screen saver mode or sleeping. Press a key to wake it up or exit screen saver mode.
- You’ll be presented with a window that asks for your user name and Password: Your user name is your first and last name all in lowercase letters. Your password will be the same as your MyCWI (and CWI email and Blackboard) password.
- IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME LOGGING INTO YOUR CWI ACCOUNT:
- Your (default) password is typically the first initial of your first name capitalized, the first initial of your last name capitalized, the lowercase word “logon”, followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number OR your student ID.
- Example1 :
- Name: John Smith
- SSN: 123-45-6789
- Username: johnsmith
- Password: JSlogon6789.
- Example 2:
- Name: John Smith
- Student ID: 5671234
- Username: johnsmith
- Password: JSlogon1234
- You will then be prompted to change your password before logging on. Click OK. It will then have you create a new unique password. Your new password must have:
- Minimum of 8 characters
- At least 3 of the following:
- One special character
- One number
- One lowercase
- One uppercase
- Cannot contain your name, social security number or be an old password.
AS A REMINDER:
- If you make 5 unsuccessful attempts to logon, the system will lock out your account for 30 minutes. Your account will automatically unlock after 30 minutes.
- Your Blackboard account is tied to your Windows logon account; if you change your password in Windows, it will automatically change your Blackboard password to the same thing.
- If you update your password, be sure to update any devices that have your old password saved, such as any apps on your smart phone or saved passwords on your favorite web browser.
