Everyone - Accessing Email from Home Using a Web Browser

Purpose

This guide provides instructions on how to log into your CWI email account using mail.cwi.edu, including credential format and multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirements.

 

Process

1. Open a Browser

  • Use Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

  • Do not use Safari.

  • In the address bar, type: mail.cwi.edu.

2. Enter Your CWI Email Address

  • A Microsoft sign-in page will appear.

  • Enter your school-affiliated email address:

    • Students: username@my.cwi.edu

    • Employees (Faculty & Staff, Work-Study): username@cwi.edu

  • Example: johnsmith@my.cwi.edu or johnsmith@cwi.edu

3. Authentication Prompt

  • A sign-in window will appear (the layout may vary depending on your browser).

  • Enter your full CWI email address again along with your password.

  • These are the same credentials used to log into Canvas, and MyCWI.

 

4. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • After entering your credentials, you will be prompted to approve the sign-in using the Microsoft Authenticator app or your registered authentication method.

 

5. Approve the Sign-In Request

  • Open the Authenticator app (or your chosen MFA method).

  • Approve the sign-in request on your device.

 

6. Finalize Sign-In

  • Once approved, you may see a “Stay Signed In?” prompt.

  • Select Yes (to reduce future logins) or No (if using a shared computer).

  • You will then be logged into your CWI email inbox.
