Everyone - Troubleshooting Locked Accounts

Note: When you update your CWI password, you will also need to update any computing device that may be using your old password to sign in to CWI apps. These devices include, laptops, tablets and mobile phones. With these devices, you would have some point used them to access your CWI email accounts and or the CWI WIFI. Any apps on your devices that you use to access CWI email and WIFI (and possibly other accesses) that store your passwords must be updated with your newest password or they will continue to attempt to sign in with the old, incorrect password and will inevitably lock your account.

** 5 failed login attempts result in your account being locked out for 30 minutes.

  1. Updating saved passwords in Apps and Devices.
    • The most common reason CWI accounts get locked out are apps or devices attempting to login to the CWI systems using an old password. Please make sure that anywhere you have a stored password to login to your CWI email, blackboard, MyCWI, or the CWI Wi-Fi, that you also update those apps with your newest password. This is generally as simple as logging out and signing back in with your new password.
    • Please note the most common saved passwords are stored in email applications OR saved Wi-Fi passwords. Check that both are cleared.
      • To clear a saved Wi-Fi network:
        1. Android: Click and hold the Wi-Fi network. A popup box should appear, and you will click Forget Network.
        2. iOS: Open Settings and go to Wi-Fi settings. Look for the CWI wifi network you want the device to forget and click the (i) button associated with the network. (depending on the device it might be a blue arrow instead.) Click forget this network and then forget again.

Clearing browser cache.

  • Sometimes your browser will save old login sessions where you’ve used your old password. We suggest clearing your browser cache in general, but especially if you’re having logon issues.

  • There is a separate FAQ (#58) on clearing browser caches.
