Everyone - Setting up MFA for Self-Service Password Reset

Purpose

To prepare for the new Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool through Microsoft Entra, all users are required to have two forms of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) configured on their account. This guide walks you through the steps to set up MFA.

 

Process

Sign into your account 

Option A (If you are not currently signed in):

Option B (If you are already signed in):

 

MFA prompt appears

  • If MFA is enabled, you’ll be prompted with: “More information required”
  • Click Next to begin setup.

 

Choose your authentication method

You’ll be asked to set up your preferred second factor:

 Option A: Microsoft Authenticator App (Recommended)

  1. Select Mobile app as your method.
  2. Choose Receive notifications for verification.
  3. Click Set up.
  4. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
  5. Tap + to add an account → Choose Work or school account.
  6. Scan the QR code shown on your computer screen.
  7. Click Next on your computer.
  8. Approve the test notification on your phone.

Option B: Phone (SMS or Call)

  1. Select Authentication phone.
  2. Choose your country and enter your phone number.
  3. Select either:
    • Text me a code
    • Call me
  4. Click Next.
  5. Enter the code received or answer the call to verify.

 

Note: The other methods are also enabled and should work as secondary MFA methods. Instructions are on screen to walk you through their setup.

 

Confirm and Finish

  • Once verified, you’ll see a confirmation screen.
  • Click Done.
